Daily Gratitude Year 7-Day 247: Today, I am grateful for a hunk-a-hunk-a-burning love.
Earworm is awake and singing the Elvis classic song "Burning Love". That song was before my time but it makes me smile.
We grew up on old Elvis movies. My Aunt Judy was a huge fan and Mama Ina Mae enjoyed Elvis, too. Elvis lit up a room with his charisma. It came through the small television screen.
Elvis had fans that would swoon and pass out from the excitement of meeting him. He didn't command that kind of attention, but it came with the territory. He was a celebrity... and people could not get enough of him.
Reading through the books of the Old Testament... I am reminded again... our God is a consuming fire. Do we look at our God with the same kind of head-over-heels love we see in old clips of Elvis with fans?
For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. -Deuteronomy 4:24
He is a consuming fire... a jealous God. Clear images form in our heads and our hearts. He doesn't simply command our attention... He wants us to be consumed with His Word, His thoughts and His ways. He longs to love and be loved in return.
Today, I am grateful for a hunk-a-hunk-a-burning love.
