Sprinklers, pools, water guns and splash pads are a few of the ways we enjoy water play when things heat up. We are under heat advisories here this week and everyone is looking for a way to cool down. There is nothing like it to refresh the spirit and soul.
Clifton had "The Pool" and Chebanse had "The Pit" for summer water fun. Kids from Clifton, Ashkum, and Chebanse all looked forward to visits to the water for fun and friendship. Lifeguard jobs were coveted when other kids were walking beans or detasseling corn. When it is miserably hot, there is nothing as refreshing as water play. Water is essential to life.
These pictures are from a weekend back home in Clifton (2009). Jennifer and I took the kids to "The Pit." I saw some old friends there with their families, too. It has been a favorite swimming hole for many generations.
Before the harvest, all four will be married. Where does the time go? I am grateful for these summer memories of water play.
For those in the heat... do not forget to drink water. There is nothing like it. Even better, taste the "living water" and never be truly refreshed and satisfied.
"But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” -John 4:14
Today, I am grateful for water play.
