The heat is dangerously high this week in central Illinois. Record breaking temperatures do not come every year. When they do, it is pretty uncomfortable. Many have air conditioning and places to find shade and fresh water.
The relief from "outside" to "air conditioning" comfort is extreme this week. The air is heavy with humidity, too. These are the times people experience air conditioning problems. Overworked and old systems can give problems.
The calls to the HVAC repair people are backing up. Service people are working overtime in the extreme heat and often in tiny, hot spaces. Be extra kind if you see them in your neighborhood. They are exhausted. They could use some random acts of kindness.
This verse reminds me of the blessing of appropriate shelter in bad weather:
"There will be a booth for shade by day from the heat, and for a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain." -Isaiah 4:6
We are creatures who love comfort. On a day like today, air conditioning can be life-saving. I am very grateful for those who are out repairing broken units.
Today, I am grateful for HVAC technicians.
