This Day Unseen

Year 5 - Day 186: Today, I am grateful for this day I have never seen before.

There is no day like today. This day is unseen and presents unknowns. Maya Angelou puts it well, and she was a lady who had survived tough stuff and didn't give up.

"This is a wonderful day. I've never seen this one before." -Maya Angelou

Attitude and gratitude are keys to unlocking and squeezing out the sweetness of each new day. Even the hardest days have points of gratitude that pour a little light into the trial.

Most days can be reshaped by a gratitude attitude. There is power in the positive... hope in looking for the good... help in offering it to God as sacrifice to be used to his glory.

I'm not really sure who said this originally. The sources are numerous and the all conflict. It is a great quote. Perhaps that is why so many have used it in important speeches and even cartoons.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.”

The gift of today comes with a choice as we unwrap it.

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lordchoose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” -Joshua 24:15

Once we make the choice, enthusiasm counts. The grumble mumble never gained us much and that kind of attitude is harder for God to use.(Refer to Exodus and 40 years in the desert.) Jonah and Saul/Paul saw big attitude adjustments so even the most stubborn clay can be molded by a mighty, masterful God. That is good news, right?

We are gifted with this day. We can give it right back to him for His use. Our lives are a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) or we hold back the parts we want to keep for ourselves.

Can we meet the challenge of living this day with a crazy love that chases the heart of Jesus  with wild abandon and sees others with His eyes of love?

It's a new day. We get to try again.

Today, I am grateful for this day I have never seen before.
