Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 65: Today, I am grateful for Band-Aids.

Barry Manilow wrote the jingle "I am stuck on a Band-aid, and Band-aids stuck on me." (If you are old enough to know it, your Earworm is singing it is your head.) It is one of those items we often call by the brand name instead of saying "bandage".

Sanitary and practical. Band-Aids are necessary items to have tucked in a purse or desk drawer. Children of all ages ask for them daily.

When a wound is fresh, a Band-Aid can help keep it clean so the healing can begin. In a little time, we have to take the bandage off so that the rest of the healing can take place. It is part of the process, but not the final solution.

Wounds need to be recognized, cleaned, the bleeding stopped and covered to start the healing.

Isn't that how Jesus finds us at times? Wounded, bleeding and in need of help. He looks at our mess...our brokenness... with deep compassion. He hurts when we hurt and longs to help us heal. We  can run to him for help or run away in fear and shame. Running to him is where healing begins.

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names." -Psalm 147:2-4

He sees our hurts. He wants to heal us. His eyes are full of compassion and understanding. He covers our us with his love, washing the sin away with his blood. He cleans us up so the healing can begin. Who knew? Jesus is like a Band-Aid... only better.

Today, I am grateful for Band-Aids.
