Wash the Dishes

Year 8-Day 246: Today, I am grateful for those who wash the dishes.

"Wash the plate not because it is dirty nor because you are told to wash it, but because you love the person who will use it next. -St. Teresa of Calcutta

This quote creates a perfect image of true love. It means not just doing the job that needs to be done, but choosing to do even the most menial jobs in love. Pouring out love and letting it suds up like fresh dishwater is an excellent image to represent "doing all things in love". It is effervescent. Even the stinkiest jobs get a little sweeter when the heart is full of humility and love.

"And do everything with love." -1 Corinthians 16:14

Once again, God's Word directs us to do something that seems to be "hard". Then, in the middle of the act, the reality strikes. What was supposed to be an unpleasant task becomes beautiful when the heart is right with our Lord.

I need these reminders often.

Today, I am grateful for those who wash the dishes.
