True Love

Gratitude Year 10 - Day 42: Today, I am grateful for true love.

Love. At Valentine's Day, it is thought to be romance, flowers and chocolate. These things are fun and festive, but are they true love? I don't think so.

Love is bigger, better and not quite as pretty and refined. Real love takes commitment and work. It means learning to love the imperfections as much as the wonderful. Love the "less than perfect" and the gifts differently... but with the same kind of tenacity.

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged." -1 Corinthians 13:4-5

Love is patient is one of my favorite thoughts. It doesn't hurry. It waits. It is a part of love that is the most selfless. It is not jealous, boastful, proud or rude. In other words, it is, also, not self-centered. It is not irritable. What is irritating becomes endearing because of love. Love is a choice everyday. It keeps no record of failures and missed targets. Love forgives.

"Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins." -1 Peter 4:8

Love, well tended, is the gift that keeps on giving. It keeps us stretching, growing and fully living.

Today, I am grateful for true love.
