Solar Lights

Daily Gratitude Year 13 - Day 182: Today, I am grateful for solar lights.

A modern technology I enjoy every evening are solar lights. They are such a wonder! Imagine, no electricity needed! We have some lining the walkway to our home and a little pumpkin fairy that lights up in a pot in the backyard at night. They are resilient, too.

I have not looked into the science of how they work, but I know the sun is their source. All day long they collect what the sun freely gives. Then at night, when the world seems dark, they light our way.

I cannot help but make the comparison of the sun to "the Son." They are homophones. They are words that sound the same but have different meanings. It is true, yet they have so much in common. Both light our way. Both break into the darkness. The sun is at the center of our solar system. Jesus is to be at the center of our lives.

"Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” -John 8:12

And another verse fits perfectly for the comparison:

"But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture." Malachi 4:2

The sun is healing. The Son is healing. And one more to bring it all together:

"Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” -John 8:12

Because of the sun and the Son, we never need to walk in darkness. Enjoy your solar lights tonight.

Today, I am grateful for solar lights, the sun, and the Son.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your post on solar lights! It got me thinking, what are your thoughts on wall mounted solar lights for outdoor spaces like patios or garden fences? I’ve been exploring some options lately and love how they add a cozy glow without needing any wiring. Plus, they seem perfect for saving energy while still being super functional.
