Daily Gratitude Year 13 - Day 159: Today, I am grateful for surefooting.
Watching deer move so quietly and without stumbling makes them fascinating to watch. I grew up with deer being frequent visitors on our land. They always appear majestic.
Deer are easily startled and move quickly. The fields, forests, and mountains often have unpredictable ground underfoot, yet they dash across the landscape with grace and ease. They are magnificent. "The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights." -Habakkuk 3:19
They seem to recognize that humans can bring danger and help. I've seen videos of a mother deer seeking human help for a baby stuck in a fence, mud, or other trouble. Their ears are sharp. They assess and quickly respond to trouble. They seem to choose flight over fight, except at mating season. They run with confidence. Do they know where they are going?
I am grateful for our God who directs our paths. He is able to make us tread paths we would not ordinarily choose. He is present when we want to fight and to flee. Trusting him when the road looks grueling, long, or too hard is often where we grow a deeper understanding of his abiding and unfailing love.
He is the one who will make a way for us when the landscape is dangerous and uncertain. We can have surefooted confidence because He walks, climbs, and runs with us.
Today, I am grateful for surefooting.
