Daily Gratitude Year 13 - Day 168: Today, I am grateful for the delays and detours.
"The strength of our patience hangs on our capacity to believe that God is up to something good for us in all our delays and detours." -John Piper
The delays and the detours we find inconvenient, annoying and unfair just might God's hand boldly slowing us down to protect us, train us, or empower us for what comes next. Every time I come upon a recent accident on the road, I wonder what delay that day may have prevented me from being in that accident. Was it an extra long stoplight? Misplacing my phone? Or, needing to make a last minute clothing change because something spilled. It is a good time to offer thanks.
Inconvenient delays and detours might be God's protection. The delays and detours can involve jobs, relationships, and opportunities missed. He is not absent and he does not sleep. We simply cannot see the big picture. Patience is not easy, but it is a virtue.
"He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him." -Proverbs 2:8
Take a deep breath. Rest peacefully. His hand is present.
Today, I am grateful for the delays and detours.
