A floodlight, in the theater, provides a wash of light. It is not really focused like a spotlight would be. Most of us can imagine that kind of scenario if we have been to a stage show or if we have floodlights that come on automatically around the exterior of our homes to provide security and safety.
This scripture caused me to pause and take note:
"I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance." -Ephesians 1:18
I adore the image this passage creates in my mind. Our hearts will be "flooded with light."
Is that what happens to our souls when we come to understand that we are, indeed, a part of his glorious inheritance? Undeserved, but ours by a birthright that cost Him his lifeblood. Praise God, the grave was not His final destination. It could not hold Him down.
We are born again. Born into the family of God. Joint heirs with Jesus. In Him, truth of our kinship is revealed. We belong to the family. It is the truth. That truth sets us free.
Today, I am grateful for floodlights.
