Reserves of Strength

Daily Gratitude Year Eleven-Day 285- Today, I am grateful for the reserves of strength found in nature.

"Those who contemplate the beauties of the earth find reserves of strength." - Rachel Carson

There is a beautiful relationship between spending time in nature and finding close communion with God. In nature, we cut out the rest of the noise that accompanies our daily lives.

We trade the radio for the birdsong. With no other distractions, we notice the ballet of the clouds as they dance across the sky. We notice the break of dawn and the colors of the sunset. We see God better in Nature.

Father, Son, and Spirit are illuminated in the handiwork we call nature. Is it any wonder that nature has a way of helping restore our souls.

After the last supper... before the evidence of a friend's betrayal.. Jesus went to the garden to pray. He faced the devil in the desert, a place that holds its own majesty. After preaching all day and the devastating news of his cousin's beheading (John the Baptist), Jesus retreated to the wilderness. There He could shut out the noise and spend time with the Father. There he found reserves of strength for his human side.

"Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” -Matthew 26:36

It was a rough night. He prayed His way through it. He prepared for the hard days ahead. He found reserves of strength.

Today, I am grateful for the reserves of strength found in nature.
