It Is Finished

Daily Gratitude Year Eleven- Day 96: Today, I am grateful "It is Finished."

My heart is always a combination of full and excited when Easter approaches every year. It didn't used to be like that for me. I dreaded it as a child. I remember feeling so guilty that Jesus had to suffer and die because of my sins.

It felt very personal. It still does, but  my perspective has changed as my understanding has grown. It is good to remember the mission and the sacrifice made.

As an adult, I understand the very real truth that no one took the life of Jesus. He gave it. He chose to become our perfect Passover Lamb. His sacrifice would serve to reconcile our sin debt. He took the cross so we could be freed from a debt we could not pay.

This passage is so powerful. Weaker men would have broken under the beatings and the cruelty of the nails Jesus endured. He didn't. Even as he hung on the cross, he offered opportunity to the other two men crucified that day for reconciliation. Only one took him up on the offer.

" Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." -John 19:30

It is finished are power packed final words.

Today, I am grateful "It is Finished."
