Daily Gratitude Year Eleven- Day 113: Today, I am grateful for the scent of fresh lilacs.
My nose is fairly discriminating. I am too easily offended by bad scents. I know deodorant is a very "American thing", but body odor literally turns my stomach. Mama Ina Mae always said "you don't have to be wealthy to be clean and well kept." If you have a gas leak, I will smell it. A good nose can be a blessing and a curse.
One of the scents of my childhood that I continue to adore is the scent of fresh lilacs. Ours are beginning to bloom in the backyard, and it reminds me of the huge one it the corner of the backyard on the farm. Fresh lilacs are pure delight!
On the other hand... imitation and fake attempts at the scent of lilacs are awful. It is the only soap I have ever returned to Bath and Body Works. Lilac candles smell awful to me, too.
But, the real deal... straight off the bush... floods a room with beautiful blooms and a sweet fragrance. They come and go swiftly, so we must enjoy them while they are here.
"The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” -Isaiah 40:8
Savor the scent and the colors.
Today, I am grateful for the scent of fresh lilacs.
