"The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions." -Proverbs 28:1
It certainly brings an image to mind, doesn't it? I can't help but think of Daniel who would not bow to any authority that put an idol before him or told him he could not pray to God. Daniel didn't mean to be defiant. He simply could not kowtow to the pagan king.
I once heard someone say that the night Daniel spent in the lions den, he is the only one who slept that night. The king didn't .
The king really liked Daniel but those who hated him put the king in a real bind. He had given his word as to what would happen to those who disobeyed his kingly decree.
We all know the story has a happy ending. God had bigger plans for Daniel.
Honestly, we were never promised that everything would always turn out okay. We were promised we would never be alone in the trials of life. Not in the lions den. Not when standing before a fiery furnace. Courage doesn't guarantee the outcome we desire, but courage loosens the chains of fear so that we can fully live in the freedom we gained through Jesus.
We don't have to run. Even when things get a little scary. We can boldly choose to trust in the Lord with all of our heart. We can exercise boldness.
Today, I am grateful we can have confidence.
