Daily Gratitude Year 13 - Day 156: Today, I am grateful for the choice to spill or fill the cup.
Summer with siblings can be long. They are designed to be our first, best, and last friends. They are the people who join our biggest celebrations including birthdays, graduations, weddings and childbirth.
Our family has experienced sibling loss. April was the first. Then Jill, who was like a sister in every way. Then more recently Monte (Randy's brother), Ken (Lola's husband), and Jennifer's brother, Jeff. We miss them. Deeply.
Siblings team up with us to help with aging or sick parents. They hold our hands at graveside goodbyes. They remember our childhood stories and every other chapter with us. Sadly, we do not always realize how precious they are until one is gone. They help shape us. Their encouragement is priceless.
Our spouses and children are our heart beat. Pouring into them instead of draining their cups is always best practice. Sometimes, we can see what they need better than they can. Being too close to a trial can make our own vision unclear. Those who pour into us make a difference.
Not living near family, a neighborhood, church and work family can make a difference, too. "Will a different job make a better life?" is always a good question to ask. We really are better together. God literally designed us for relationship with Him and then for each other. He knew that Adam's gentle strength and Eve's fierce softness would make a perfect combination.
"So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing." 1Thessalonians 5:11
What will we choose today? Instead of spilling someone's tea, be the person who fills their cup.
Today, I am grateful for the choice to spill or fill the cup.
