Miracle of the Seed

Daily Gratitude Year 5- Day 123: Today, I am grateful for the miracle of the seed.

Seeds are so amazing. Growing up on the farm, we learned early the wonder of planting a seed and watching it grow. I never have lost the wonder.

How something hard and so lifeless can spring forth with new life when properly cared for by tender hands... a part of God's great design in nature. Even more amazing are the things that grow as seeds are carried by the wind, the rain and the Creator's menagerie of magnificent creatures... of every size. There is a balance and a harmony.

Let heaven and nature sing.

Years ago we used a VBS program... Lava Lava Island... that had a rocking version of "Joy To The World"... (the Lord has come, not Jeremiah was a bullfrog)...and the kids loved it. The "let heaven and nature sing" chorus was bellowed with childlike enthusiasm. I am reminded that the song really is more than a Christmas song. It is an offering of worship and praise.

Heaven and nature must sing His praise. They were designed to do that very thing. They bow at His feet. Power, mystery, miracles and wonder combined. Our uniquely human desire to figure it all out, a reflection of his image, too. When you can control time and space, to create a life that can think, learn, experiment and explore really was the masterpiece. To grant that treasured masterpiece free will to choose him or reject him out of a desire to be loved in return... loved by choice not demand... that is the most special love.

Perhaps that is why the bride and bridegroom analogy is so often used in scripture. Love is like that tiny seed that is nurtured and cared for with time and tenderness. It grows into something so strong. That life becomes precious... their heartbeat your favorite rhythm and their voice becomes the one you love to hear. Love grows. Love would lay down his life for the other.

Love... faith... and seeds all hold some mystery. I like that. We learn to trust the unseen.

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustardseed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” - Matthew 17:20

Today, I am grateful for the miracle of the seed.
