The Fourth of July

Daily Gratitude Year Eleven-Day 183- Today, I am grateful for The Fourth of July.

The rabbit hole they call genealogy is a big adventure. This year, I know a little more about our family history. This year, I know that on my Mama's side of the family the Revolution was something they lived, and not just read in the history books. I can't even imagine it.

The Calkins, St. John, Forney, Bess/Best/Bosch, Crippen and Davenport men choose freedom over tyrannical rule. They were men of courage and conviction. They had a vision. They were dreamers and doers. They did not shrink in the face of danger or defeat. They kept pressing on and into the hope that gave birth to these United States. They believed in something bigger than themselves.

This verse reminds me to take notice of all God has done. Every little detail of His plan unfolds and points to the glory of God.

"In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the Lord! Praise his name! Tell the nations what he has done. Let them know how mighty he is!" -Isaiah 12:4

The Fourth of July is another chance to remind ourselves of His might... and to give thanks for those who purchased our freedom.

Today, I am grateful for The Fourth of July.
