Daily Gratitude Year Eleven-Day 195- Today, I am grateful to be valued.
Jesus told the parable of the good shepherd leaving his ninety-nine safe sheep to go and find one who was lost. The amazing thing about the parables is that you can learn something new every time you read them.
“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?: -Luke 15:4
Counting sheep would be a taxing task because they move around. Imagine, all of the sheep are in the field and the shepherd realizes one is missing. I imagine they have their individual personalities and the shepherd knows his sheep. He probably isn't surprised by the identity of the one who wandered off. He has to find him. A protective force within him, calls him to the task. He feels driven to find the lost one and return it to the herd.
The shepherd has 99 other sheep, but the one who is lost is worth risking his own life to save. He does not know what dangers lay beyond the pasture borders. Still, he goes. Why? Something of value needs to be saved. Something or someone. The value of that life becomes pricless because the shepherd sees its worth.
I love that!
Today, I am grateful to be valued.
