Softens But Doesn't Melt

Daily Gratitude Year Eleven-Day 188- Today, I am grateful for a heart that softens but doesn't melt.

"Allow God to continually soften your heart, so that it beats for what His heart beats for... people." -Unknown Source

This quote took my mind to an unexpected place. Melted butter and soft butter. They are the same ingredient when we purchase it at the store, but butter can easily change form and shape.

It makes a huge difference when baking. Do not use melted butter when a recipe calls for softened. When the recipe is done, something will be off. The right state of being for the right job.

Perhaps there is a life lesson in there to be learned. Let God soften your heart, but don't completely melt. Sometimes we need to hold on to a little form to be useful.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we are clearly told not to harden our hearts.

So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts.” -Hebrews 4:7

Soft hearts that are able to receive the truth and remain firm make all the difference.

Today, I am grateful for a heart that softens but doesn't melt.
