Thankful Tongues

Daily Gratitude Year Eleven-Day 327- Today, I am grateful for thankful tongues.

Someone once said there is a reason God gave us two eyes, two hands, two feet, two ears, and one tongue. That little body part causes more trouble than the others combined.

but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison." -James 3:8

Jill and I used to joke about James 3 being in every translation of the Bible. Of course, it is there. And in each one, it boldly points out all the trouble our tongues can cause. To be intentional with our words is a way we can honor our Lord, or cause him pain.

What if every unkind word I said caused Jesus to feel the blow of the hammer to the nails in His hands as they placed him on the cross? Could I bear the responsibility of His suffering and pain?  In truth, that is exactly what happened. He bore our sins and transgressions so our debt could be marked, "Paid in full."

We can use our tongues for help or harm. We can use them to lift up another soul or cut them down.

"And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father." -Colossians 3:17

Choose kindness and encouragement. Choose gratitude. I need to be reminded to do the same.

Today, I am grateful for thankful tongues.
