Daily Gratitude Year 12 - Day 265: Today, I am grateful for a reminder to say "yes" to rest and play.
"It takes courage to say "yes" to rest and play in a culture where exhaustion is seen as a status symbol." -Brene Brown
It is a wise reflection on our era and our culture. We need to rest and we need to play. Both are part of being human. Both are necessary.
God designed our human bodies so they would need to rest and recharge. When we rest, we find time to play.
"Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath." -Mark 2:27
The practice of a Sabbath is beautiful. God delights in our worship, but he does not require or need it. Practicing the Sabbath is good for our bodies, minds, and our souls. In the practice of the pause, we can see Him better. We can even get to nap and play.
We are instructed to keep the Sabbath holy. He does not want us to mess it up with things that are not honoring to God and good for the Kingdom. Seek His face. Build relationships. Delight in His Word. Rest. Fellowship. Play.
Today, I am grateful for a reminder to say "yes" to rest and play.
