Apricity

Daily Gratitude Year 12 - Day 47: Today, I am grateful  for a new word...apricity.

Apricity is not really a new word. It is actually antiquated. It is a word for the warmth of the sun in winter, coined in 1623 by Henry Cockeram.

I have no idea why that word would become obsolete!

Who doesn't love the feeling of a sun warmed car on a winter's day? Or what about sunbeams flooding through a window, warming whoever is fortunate enough to catch them?

"...for he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. "Matthew 5:45b

The warmth of the sun in the winter is like an unexpected gift. Savor it.

Today, I am grateful  for a new "old" word...apricity.
