Invention & Willie Wonka

Daily Gratitude Year 4- Day 243: Today, I am grateful for the creative, hard working minds that propel us into new inventions...and Gene Wilder's Willie Wonka (based on the Roald Dahl book).

This week may see a few more Gene Wilder moments. I didn't think I was a huge fan, yet his genius in certain roles is undeniable. The sadness is real. He was one of the good guys.

He was brilliant in his comedic delivery and his unique ability to bring to life a more gentle comedic genius to life. It is why his Willie Wonka will always be the fan favorite.

The character Willie Wonka was quirky and confident. He didn't follow the crowd and didn't care if the crowd followed him. He inspired fans to do the right thing when choices presented themselves. Good stuff for kids of all ages.

Such a rich telling of the Roald Dahl story... and the messages are timeless. Doing the right thing doesn't have to be miserable. Genius and hard work do not have to be boring. Never neglect the butterscotch ripple or the recipe for invention will not come out right.

The work we are called to do should have a butterscotch ripple. A labor of love always gets better results. When vision, passion and perspiration come together - amazing things happen.

The things we once believed impossible... are now a part of daily living. We were created in His image to be creative. There are no limits.

"Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion ... over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” -Genesis 1:26-27

We breathe his breath. Creativity is His gift...unique to each one of us. It is where we find our groove, make our move and enjoy the dance. I know we return to this theme often, but if creativity was not a rich part of the human experience there would be no books written, movies made or jewelry created. How can we think it frivolous?

From creating quilts to creating wealth...we are designed to be creative... made in His image. In our creativity, we must be true to His word and take responsibility for where actions and decisions lead.

Some will find a better way to make a car.
Some will give us better sound systems.
Others will redesign the cell phone again and again.

Disney will create and re-create.
Musicians will write songs that will inspire to dance and make us cry.

Authors like Roald Dahl will give us characters like Willie Wonka and the Gene Wilder's of the acting world will bring them to life.

Today, I am grateful for the creative, hard working minds that propel us into new inventions...and Gene Wilder's Willie Wonka.
