The Nativity

Daily Gratitude Year 9- Day 359: Today, I am grateful for the humility at the nativity.

It took us years to agree on our nativity. We wanted something simple. When the Willow Tree Nativity was introduced, we knew it was what we both wanted. We added to the pieces each year and sister-in-love, Lola, gifted us with the creche. It is a treasure in our family. (Ours has a T-Rex, but that is another story for another day.)

They nativity was not fancy. It was humble servants who said "Yes" to the angels requests or instructions. My heart has a special place for Joseph. Joseph chose to love and raise a child who was not his by biology. He knew it. Mary knew it. God ordained it. It did not matter what the rest of Nazareth said at the well. They knew the truth.

Had Joseph been a different man, Mary could have been stoned. Had Mary been a different girl... the Messiah would have had to wait for another who met all the requirements. These two were the first to welcome our Lord.

Soon to join them were the farmers coming in from the fields. Farmers! I love it.

"They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child.  All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often." -Luke 2: 16-19

How did their human hearts take it all in? It must have been overwhelming. The saw the miracle and were filled with wonder. Farmers talk. I'm sure the word spread in the fields, at the market and around the campfires. The were a great way to get the news out so the story of that special night would be shared for generations.

Seek and you will find. He is still waiting.

Today, I am grateful for the humility at the nativity.
