Understanding

Daily Gratitude Year 12 - Day 158: Today, I am grateful for understanding.

"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around." - Atticus Finch, To Kill a Mockingbird

Miss Rosie Chalfant was our 8th grade ELA teacher. I remember reading "To Kill a Mockingbird." It was so good. The thing with true classic novels is that they age well.

The story reminds me that human behavior does not change that much over time. Technology changes, but humans do not change much.

Man's inhumanity to man seems to know limits. A little kindness can make all the difference. Grief changes us. Courage to stand up for what is right, and good, and moral still means something.

Today is, also, the 80th anniversary of D-Day. A few Veterans from that day are still alive. Imagine being in their skin on this day 80 years ago. They were not much more than boys if you counted their birthdays, but they were men. There is a reason they call them "the greatest generation."

"Choose some well-respected men from each tribe who are known for their wisdom and understanding, and I will appoint them as your leaders.’" -Deuteronomy 1:13

That is great instruction.

Today, I am grateful for understanding.
