Daily Gratitude Year 6- Day 106: Today. I am grateful the snows will stop.
Earworm is up and singing "Just another manic Monday." in my ear. Now your earworm is singing it, too. The beginning of a new week does not have to be overwhelming or reason for anxiety. It is a fresh start. We can embrace it, as we face it.
Things we can be thankful for on this Monday are multiple. One stands out.
The snow is going to eventually stop!
Dad and every other farmer always said, "If it rains on Easter, it rains for seven Sundays after Easter."
This year it snowed on Easter... and it has snowed three Sundays in a row. The good news is that it won't last for seven Sundays.
In Illinois, I have not one recollection of snow in May, although a little research proved that it can and does... and more often than you think. It appears that I am not the only one asking the question this April.

"Only eight Mays have produced measurable snow, most recently 0.5 inch May 6, 1989."
That seems like too many to me. Keep in mind Chicago has lake effects. I am sure Lake Michigan is a part of the equation in the late snows. It is another reason to be grateful that what happens in Chicago... sometimes stays in Chicago.
It is hard to wait for seasons to change. It is easy to become discontent with the current season. Farmers become anxious to get the crops in... and equally concerned about getting crops out in the fall. The truth is... with a few exceptions... the crops go in and the crops come out... but the waiting is not easy or fun. Seasons take their time coming in and going out.
How do we learn to savor lessons in patience? How do we celebrate the wait time. For an expectant mother, each sonogram is full of wonder and delight as the baby grows inside the womb. Still, the discomfort at the end leads to impatience for most. By birth, she is ready for the new season.
I can't help but think of Mary carrying Jesus. We are told that "She treasured these things in her heart." She held the wait and the wonder in her heart... like a precious gift. In other words, she found the wonder in the wait. What a special girl!
For most of us, the wonder in the wait is not natural. It can be developed. "Be still and know that I am God." reads like a commandment out of Psalm 46:10.
This passage from Romans is another great reminder to wait on the Lord. It is always in our best interest, despite the temptation to take the timeline and situation into our own hands, instead of waiting on Him.
"Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled." -Romans 15:4
We can have hope and be encouraged that our God keeps his promises. He holds our pretty, spinning, little blue planet in place as she travels around the sun. He holds this day and all of our tomorrows. We need not fret (and I am trying to not complain) about a little snow. It is temporary.
Today. I am grateful the snows will stop.
