Year 8- Day 62: Today, I am grateful for creative calls.
God was not created. When Moses asked who he should say sent him, God replied, "Tell them, I AM sent you." It has always been my favorite of God's names, although I do love Yaweh and Yeshua, too. "I AM" is a name that declares His presence, His sovereignty, His authority and His purpose.
He is the God who designs and creates... not the God who reflects a people or a culture. He is the author and perfecter of all things. His ways are His ways. He is a good at restoration and recycling, too. (For this, I am eternally grateful!)
He is not idle... although he can be patient for centuries (ie: 400 years between the Old & New Testament). People often mistake His ability to wait for apathy or indifference. The God of the Bible is the "God Who Stays" as a current popular song declares. In every storm weathered, He is there. Always.
The Great Designer breathed His very breath into us. His breath gave us life. Does His creative breath in us mean we each have a creative call? I have pondered this for years. I believe it is clearly "Yes!". Many spend a lifetime discovering their creative call. Others find it in their youth and answer it. Some need a change along the way.
The farmer is the artist of the fields.
The gardener an artist whose mediums include vegetables and flowers.
The accountant designs great ways to keep numbers in order so home and business thrive.
The chef makes beautiful and delicious things in the kitchen with artistic precision.
The cowboy cares for a herd and they thrive into a beautiful, healthy and happy livestock.
The doctor and nurse pour out creative healing wisdom on the sick and hurting.
The librarian creates a sanctuary for reading, learning and exploring.
The computer science people do their magic with math and science and bring us Apps & other wonders.
The homemaker creates a home that is safe for all to thrive.
The counselor creates a framework to help the hurting reflect and manage emotions.
The construction worker creates the buildings and the homes the architects design.
The general contractor creates a way to bring the architect's designs to life.
The engineer answers the call to create a better process or a better way.
The secretary creates order that reflects or sets the image of the business or the boss.
The artist creates everything from hand lettering fonts to jewelry.
The writer wrangles words into thoughts, ideas and feelings so they can be shared.
We all have a creative call.
AW Tozer said, “Man for all his genius is but an echo of the original Voice, a reflection of the uncreated Light. As a sunbeam perishes when cut off from the sun, so man apart from God would pass back into the void of nothingness from which he first leaped at the creative call.”
This scripture comes to mind.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." -John 1:1
The Word... spoken... breathed... calling us to life in Him, with Him and for Him.
Feeling lost today? Take a deep breath and listen for your calling. You might be hearing it for the first time. You may have forgotten the joy because of the "ordinary days". You can do whatever work you do with excellence that honors God and pours out His love on people.
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." -Romans 8:28
We are called according to His purpose. Any genius in humans is an echo of the original voice. It is His breath. All of us are called to something. That call may look different in different seasons of life. We hear His voice or we ignore it. Disclaimer: He can be very patient and persistent while we figure it out.
Today, I am grateful for creative calls.
