Things That Glow

Daily Gratitude Year 5-Day 307: Today, I am  grateful things that glow.

"What are you going to do with all that dark?"
"Find a way to glow in it." -Amanda Torroni

This is a new one... a first in five years. How have I forgotten to give thanks for things that glow?

I adore fireflies and their little luminescent miracle. They glow making the magic of a summer night tangible for kids and grown-ups alike.

Remember Glo-Worms? That bedtime toy for little ones that would comfort them with a glow. How about the glow from a fireplace.

Randy made our first fire of the season last night. The glow made the room feel warm even when we weren't next to the fire.

A candle is another "glow"rious example of light. It is not too bright. It glows adding warmth, life and the feel of romance to a quiet dinner. Many candles can light up a celebration birthday cake.

Nighttime images captured on film or in a painting that represent a city at night have always had a special appeal. It is the glow that catches my eye. They touch of yellows and oranges that add vibrancy and life. From Van Gogh to modern day photography, there is wonder in the glow of light that doesn't have enough power to light the room... but it can light the way.

"You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."-Matthew 5:14-16

We can choose to light the way. Don't give up. Don't give in. Just stay the course and glow. There is dark in the world. Dark, evil, nasty and life destroying dark. It can feel overwhelming. This world has never needed the Light of the World more than it does this holiday season. (Yes... it is November... the holidays are here.)

You may not always feel like you shine... but you can choose to glow.

Earworm is singing Kari Jobe's "We Are". What a great song!

We are the light of the world
We are the city on the hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta
We gotta let the light shine

And in the darkest night or troubled times... glow. His love is the fuel that never runs out.

Today, I am  grateful things that glow.
