The Right Words

Daily Gratitude Year 7- Day 343: Today, I am grateful for the right words.

Some of the most challenging times in our lives are the seasons when words seem inadequate to express the deepest grief or the deepest joy. There are times words fail... and I love words.

Moses felt inadequate. God had a burning desire to see Moses trust him to the point of swift and full obedience. Moses didn't always get it right... he was human... but he longed to know God intimately.

When God instructed Moses to go to the people and speak his wishes, Moses resisted. He felt his brother Aaron, a Levite, would do a better job as God's spokesperson. Yes, Moses would find himself tongue-tied, but that meant he had to fully rely on God. He didn't honor God by using his gifts for the Lord... Moses trusted God to pour out his Spirit so that he would be filled with God's message and not his own.

"I will help you speak and will teach you what to say." -Exodus 4:12

Are there times when our relationship with the father grows deeper and stronger because he has led us beyond our comfort zones? He stretches us and we go and grow.

We don't know much about what Mary and Joseph said.. or didn't say.. on the night Jesus was born. We know they trusted God to provide all of their needs in the little town of Bethlehem. I love that Mary quietly "pondered these things in her heart". Still, they had to receive their awe struck and overly excited visitors. Were the conversations awkward? Were they short? Were they simple, warm wishes to celebrate the newborn King? Were they at a loss for words?

Seasons come and go. Along the way, we make choices. Will we let him lead, so he can give us the words? Or, do we long for the control? The internal battle can be very real. I am grateful we can trust him for all of our needs, including words.

Today, I am grateful for the right words.
