No Duplicates

Daily Gratitude Year 5-Day 278: Today, I am grateful for a God who is a Creator not a duplicator.

Nothing start my day better than a new quote.  One that is new to me... just may be new to other, too.

"Be careful not to turn others' lives into the mold for your own... We have a  God who is a creator not a duplicator. -Francis Chan

Again, the idea of comparison is the thief of joy. We all have our own unique gifts and skill set to offer.

I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously.-1 Chronicles 29:17

This verse is an excerpt from David's prayer of praise as he is verbally and publicly declaring that it will... indeed... be his son,Solomon, who will not only be the new king, but the one to build the new temple. David wanted to be the one, but God said "no". His role was a key chapter in the history of Israel, and Solomon's would be, as well. Father and son... both kings... but different seasons.

Frankly, this glimpse of David's heart at the end of his life is one of my favorites. Kings were and are accustomed to getting their way. David wasn't perfect, but when it came time to bend the knee... he knew who was the King of Kings.

We only have to shine the light we were given. Whatever and however it was dispensed. To give, use our gifts, offer our hands and our hearts in response to what we have been given is where joy is found.

In "The Big Ten"... God instructs the people to not be jealous. "Do not covet." Why? I have grown to believe that it is about having a "good attitude" when others have more.  It is about choosing to be satisfied with what we are given. He wants to BE our enough and trust that He IS our enough. (embrace the "be" verbs)

He is the great "I AM"... and in HIM we live and more and have our being.

for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’  -Acts 17:28

Some get green eyes, some have blue. Some write a poetry. Some sing a tune. Some build skyscrapers, schools and homes. Some make the meals. Some clean the floors. Be content with what he grants you. Take joy. He calls us His own. We are all his offspring.

Embrace your uniqueness. Use your gifts with enthusiasm. It honors our Lord.

Today, I am grateful for a God who is a Creator not a duplicator.
