Clear Directions

Daily Gratitude Year Eleven- Day 5: Today, I am grateful for clear directions.

Did anyone have projects this Christmas with "some assembly required".  Those are not my favorites. I like pictures, step-by-step or a video for clear directions. The Love of my Life is our chief of some assembly required. He has a chest full of tools and he knows how to use them. How I adore that man!

Randy did not have much of a tool box when we first married. He would buy tools as he needed them for projects. My guy is a fast learner and really smart, so he has mastered many of the home fix-it projects with the help of some good friends, YouTube and PBS in the early days.

Randy started tool boxes for our boys when they were little. They received them before they left home. I hope they smile and think of their Dad many years from now, when they reach for the tools he gathered for them over the course of almost 20 years.

He didn't just give them the tools, he explained each one and how it was used. I have some of the sweetest pictures of both of them "helping" their Dad. He would give directions and show them how. They would do their best to follow his lead and imitate his behaviors.

My Bible reading for today was Matthew 5, which includes what we know as "The Beatitudes." It is chock full of teaching!  I like to think of them as the "Be Attitudes." They teach us how to be,  behave, and act as believers.

Jesus was not loud like John the Baptist. Jesus  went up to the mountain and sat down to teach.  Jesus did not sugar coat his teachings, but his tone was that of a teacher and not a preacher. He clearly taught spiritual truth to anyone who would listen. Yet, in his rhythmic presentation, there is a gentleness.

This is a passage worth memorizing:

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.  God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.  God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs." - Matthew 5:3-10 (NLT)

We could spend a week in Matthew 5 and still not glean all of the wisdom to be  harvested.

Our God does not change with the wind. His expectations are clear.

Today, I am grateful for clear directions.
