Pondering

Daily Gratitude Year Eleven-Day 357- Today, I am grateful Mary "pondered these things in her heart."

Mary surely was overwhelmed with the birth, the physical drain of a new baby, and the guest who arrived to worship. Oh what a night!

"And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them." -Luke 2:16-20

Somewhere between the excitement and the exhaustion, Mary paused to ponder. What went through her mind, we are not told. Did Psalm 46:10 run through her mind?

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” -Psalm 46:10

Sweet, gentle Mary. She held the Way, the Truth, and the Light in her arms that first Christmas morning. She would tend to his every need for now, but He would save her and her people from their sins. So much to ponder.

Today, I am grateful Mary "pondered these things in her heart."
