Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 95: Today, I am grateful for justice... and mercy.
Our God is righteous. He demands justice. Today, I am grateful for those who continue to "fight the good fight" to protect the innocent, the widowed, the orphaned, the sick and the wounded. These people "do justice". It is an action verb, just like love.
Amos 5 is a powerful piece of prophecy.
"Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living." -Amos 5:24
We live in a time where everyone is so afraid of offending someone, that evil can run us over. Moral codes are vanishing as we live in an age that has no "true north" on our compass.
Life is a precious. Each heartbeat is a gift. What we do with our lives, is our gift to God. We are called to love, mercy and justice.
"Hate evil and love what is good; turn your courts into true halls of justice. Perhaps even yet the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will have mercy on the remnant of his people." -Amos 5:15
Justice and mercy. They cannot really be separated. They are part of the character of our God.
As we look toward Easter, we see justice and mercy combined. The perfect sacrifice for the imperfect people. Justice satisfied and mercy poured out. It really is amazing love. Jesus paid the price so we could receive mercy.
After all these years, He still leaves me breathless with wonder.
"There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." -John 15:13
Today, I am grateful for justice... and mercy.
