Trains

Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 93: Today, I am grateful for trains.

Trains changed travel as our nation stretched from coast to coast. Today, we still use them in urban areas daily. It is a form of travel many still use to see different areas of our country.

I've waited on endless trains in Clifton where I grew up. Clifton was divided by train tracks. there was no question as to whether you lived on the east or west side of town. A person can learn patience waiting on trains... or learn to waste energy with impatience.

How many times does our impatience lead to poor decisions? Can we end up on the wrong train? What happens to our train of thought when impatience reigns? It is easy to get on the wrong train... or the wrong train of thought.
"If you board the wrong train, it is no use running along the corridor in the opposite direction." -Dietrich Bonhoeffer

The problem is momentum. We can't gain any ground when we are running against movement of the train.

How do we avoid the wrong train? Watch for the signs. Ask questions. Ask for help. Listen for directions and write things down.

"We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne." -Hebrews 12:2

We don't need to be dismayed, confused or even frustrated when we catch His train. We can let Him conduct our journey with confidence.

Today, I am grateful for trains.
