Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 94: Today, I am grateful for pleasant inns.
"Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not encourage us to mistake them for home." -CS Lewis
Another new to me quote for CS Lewis. I always end our Christmas letter with "Listen for angels. Look for the star and find hope waiting in a manger. If you are ever near Morton, there is always room in the inn."
Why? Because Jesus birth arrived outside an inn that was too full. Isn't that a sad commentary on our lives, our Easters and our Christmas seasons. Are our lives too full to make room for Jesus?
Are our own "pleasant inns" too comfortable? Do we avoid stepping out in courage to walk and find what He has in store for us? Do we want Him to follow us and be with us in the scary places of our own adventures, or do we let him lead?
God grants us some amazing times in our comfortable homes and churches with people who are just "like us". Jesus spent his time seeking out the ones most of society tried to avoid. How do we savor the comfort of pleasant inns in a way that refreshes us for the work? I am better at questions than answers.
Jesus reminds us of the refreshment that comes from him alone:
Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” -John 4:13-14
Living intentionally is a good place to start. Intentionally refreshing our souls in the pleasant places. Committedly pursuing the kingdom assignments God places before us is a great place to start. Let the warmth of the pleasant inn moments refuel our fires and give us new energy for the work of the gospel of Christ.
Today, I am grateful for pleasant inns.
