Giant Fall

Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 91: Today, I am grateful giants fall.

Francesca Battistelli sings a song called "Giants Fall". It is upbeat, fun and a powerful reminder of how we can face the big, the bad and the ugly life brings us.

Here is the chorus:
"Don't you be afraid
Of giants in your way
With God you know that anything's possible
So step into the fight
He's right there by your side
The stones inside your hand might be too small

But watch the giants fall"

It references David facing off with Goliath. We think about the moment, the stones, the crowds watching and the moment of truth. We forget that David's faith walk did not begin that day. God had been his companion against threats to his flock for many years. He didn't go out in the fields alone and he didn't stand before the giant of a man alone.

"You face giants by facing God first. Focus on the giants, you stumble. Focus on God, your giants tumble." -Max Lucado

Focus matters. The voices of the doubters are loud, but can be prayerfully shut out.

"Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground. So David triumphed over the Philistine with only a sling and a stone, for he had no sword. " -1 Samuel 17:49-50

After the build up before the battle, it all went down rather uneventfully. Goliath's taunts didn't really last that long. David cut off Goliath's head using his fallen foe's sword.  The Philistine army ran away.

New weeks come with new battles. It is good to be reminded that giants fall when our faith and focus are in the one who sets the stars in place.

Today, I am grateful giants fall.
