Daily Gratitude Year 7-Day 159: Today, I am grateful for strawberry shortcake.
One of our neighboring town, Tremont, has a Turkey Festival every year. What a beautiful weekend they have had to celebrate summer. The school mascot is "The Turks" and the starring food for the festival is turkey. They even throw frozen turkeys in a competition, and of course there are carnival rides, carnival foods and a craft fair. There is a little something for everyone. Randy and I made our way over to Tremont and it did not disappoint.
One of the highlights for many people are the strawberry shortcakes. It wasn't until I met The Love of My Life that I learned the correct base for a strawberry shortcake. It is not a sponge cake. Oh, no! The correct way to make it is with a biscuit. Don't knock it until you try it... and for heaven's sake... don't skimp on the whipped cream.
There are times we learn that the way we have always done something is not good as it could be.
Do we make discoveries on our spiritual journey that fall into that category? Perhaps is the way we approach prayer. Is it out of duty or is it an intimate conversation with a best friend? What about worship? Does what we pour into worship change the outcome and the experience? I believe it does.
Jesus want us to seek him with our whole hearts so we can discover what is good... and what is better as we grow in relationship with Him. Why settle for sponge cake when a biscuit makes it better?
Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. -Psalm 63:3
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. -Psalm 84:10a
Today, I am grateful for strawberry shortcake and His steadfast love.
