The Heartbreak that Draws us Nearer

Daily Gratitude Year 10- Day 162: Today, I am grateful for the heartbreak that draws us nearer.

A wise person once put forth this question: "If God seems far away, who moved?" Spoiler alert: it wasn't Him.

Heartbreak and suffering because of love are a part of every life... at least every life worth living.  To know great loss, we must first know great love. Love is worth it.

"We shall draw near to God, not by trying to avoid sufferings inherent in all loves, but by accepting them and offering them to Him. Throwing away all defensive armor. If our hearts need to be broken and if He chooses this as a way in which they should break, so be it." -C.S. Lewi

C. S. Lewis puts it quite eloquently. It doesn't make it any easier, but there is the reminder that God is magnificent at using pain to draw us nearer to His heart.

"Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world." -James 4:8

God loves to heal and restore. Satan loves to destroy. Love makes us vulnerable, but it teaches us how to really live. Is it any wonder that the enemy tries to sell us "fake love". He has been working that scene since the beginning of time.

As parents, we hurt when our kids hurt. We rejoice when our children rejoice. We were never promised this life would be easy, but were promised His ever present Holy Spirit would be with us. Pain is, at times, a part of getting our hearts in tune.

Today, I am grateful for the heartbreak that draws us nearer.
