The Love of My Life

Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 34: Today, I am grateful for "The Love of My Life".

It is Super Bowl Sunday... but it is also the anniversary of the birth of my guy. Words seem inadequate to express how much he means to me. To say "I love him with my whole heart." is merely a place to start. I have learned so much from him in our years together. I treasure any time we spend together. Not in doing things together, but in the being together.

I love his razor sharp wit and intelligent sense of humor. He is kind and compassionate in word and deed. He is a team player but always willing to carry more than his share of the load. He practices the art of contentment with a wisdom beyond his years. He will always do without to give to others. He literally is the hardest person to buy a gift because he wants nothing (except a maybe a dog... which explains how we ended up with a puppy about this time last year).

I have finished reading "Everybody  Always" by Bob Goff. There was lesson after lesson in building relationships and learning to "be Jesus" throughout the book. For me, I see so much room for improvement in my own the mirror. For The Love Of My Life, I see the little, thoughtful things he does everyday that go unnoticed and unrewarded. He does not intentionally draw attention to himself. He tries to do the right thing.

"Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast." -Proverbs 12:10a Now, I am not sure this verse implies we should give the 65 pound puppy the the best portion of our bed, but he is not taking any chances.

"Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation." -Psalm 68:5 The Love of My Life sees the people many ignore with compassion. He sets house standards like "never walking by a Salvation Army bell ringer without giving".

And he said to them, “Which of you, having a son or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?” -"Luke 14:5 Our children and our friends and family know he would never abandon them in a well, on the side of a road or in any other trial. He operates on the belief that if you are going to take up air, you should do something. Hopefully do something positive, but he jokingly say...  "Do something, even if it's wrong!" It is one of his Randy-isms.

I am giggling that the word "Randy-isms" popped out in this post. It is a new word in my vocabulary... but we have repeated Randy's father's "Jake-isms" for year. I wonder which ones our children will pass on to their children.

I am most grateful that I have had the adventure of doing life with this guy. I pray God grants us many more anniversaries of your birth.

Today, I am grateful for "The Love of My Life".
