Daily Gratitude Year 7-Day 238: Today, I am grateful for the moments we realize the power of God at work in our lives.
This sassy little munchkin is our great niece. She is truly sugar and spice. Her vocabulary is stretching but not quite big enough for all that goes on in her pretty little head. I love reading all that she has been up to as she grows and goes.
"The Devil whispered,"You can't withstand the storm." The Warrior replied, "With God on my side, I am the storm."
The quote fits perfectly. Adelynn's journey to Craig and Monica's arms is one that still amazes me. God moved in big and unexpected ways to place her in the arms of her Mommy and Daddy. There were so many prayers for this little one, even before they knew her name.
Adelynn was just a few months old when she was placed in the arms of the parents God chose for her. After multiple scenarios where their plans for adoption did not work out, our nephew and niece were ready to be done. They were trying to come to terms with not being parents. But, then, in the midst of a big sorrows... this little miracle showed up with a twinkle in her eye and an irresistible smile.
They said "yes" to fostering her... knowing that they might once again face heartbreak if they had to let her go. They had been living in the storm of infertility and failed adoptions. They were weary. The Enemy was sure he had broken their spirits... but that was when God began to unfold his perfect, powerful plan.
The turning point in this story happened when this young couple began to sincerely pray for the souls of the birth parents of this child and developed real compassion for their struggles. In learning to pray for them, they discovered a flood of blessings. God moved mightily in the midst of their fears. He opened their hearts and answered the prayers.
He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. -Psalm 107:29
Our God still calms the storms. Sometimes, he lets the storm rage and calms our fears. Other times, he calms the wind and the waves so we can rest easy in His goodness. We do not always recognize His hand in our trials, but He is always with us. He is always working things out... in His time.
Today, I am grateful for the moments we realize the power of God at work in our lives.
