Daily Gratitude Year 7-Day 219: Today, I am grateful for another chance to pursue wholeness instead of perfection.
True confessions of a first born, overachiever... even though I know I am far from perfect... there is this force inside of me that hopelessly chases perfection. In most cases, it is a senseless pursuit, because human beings are not perfect. How much better off I would be, if I could learn to pursue wholeness instead of perfection!
"How liberating it is to pursue wholeness instead of perfection." - Morgan Harper Nichols
Powerful words! Full of wisdom. What does it take to help us refocus on wholeness over perfection?
In a perfect world, everyone would be completely satisfied with our daily offerings of work, love, service, friendship and meal planning. We do not live in a perfect world.
What if we made wholeness the goal? What can we do today that completes us? What makes us take a deep breath and say, "That was worth the time and effort." What makes your soul sing?
Thus says the Lord:“Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ -Jeremiah 6:16
We humans are full of free will. It is a gift, but it can be costly. Can we find the "ancient path" that brings rest for our souls? So simple... but the battle inside of us is real. He wants us to long for wholeness... and the kind found when we rest in Him.
Today, I am grateful for another chance to pursue wholeness instead of perfection.
