Year 8-Day 50: Today, I am grateful for chicken noodle soup.
It is an American staple. Campbell's makes a quick version most of us ate as children and some keep it in our pantries as adults. It is said to have healing qualities. It is a comfort food for many. Chicken noodle soup warms us, body and soul.
There is no one recipe in our house, although my family loves the version I make with Mrs. Reemes noodles and a rotisserie chicken. The more noodles the better.
When your body starts to ache and you don't know what to make for dinner...chicken noodle soup is always a good choice. Some of the ingredients have been shown to be effective in the battle against' winter illnesses.
Soup is usually easy to prepare and feeds a crowd. It makes it popular with all ages. I was reminded of these words spoken by Jesus.
"For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home." -Matthew 25:35
Soup is a way to extend a welcome to another person. Hospitality is important. Keeping it simple is a good approach.
Today, I am grateful for chicken noodle soup.
