Gingham & Buffalo Check

Daily Gratitude Year 9-Day 179: Today, I am grateful for Gingham & Buffalo Check plaids.

I discovered different fashion authors have different opinions on the differences between gingham and buffalo check plaids, so I will not pretend to be completely sure. To keep it simple, the buffalo check is a bigger, bolder print. Gingham is a smaller and more delicate looking relative of the same pattern.

Gingham has long been associated with the freshness of summer. I never tire of seeing sprinkles of gingham in our summer linens and things. Buffalo check is more often associated with fall and Christmas, but I am delighted that it has started to surface in the other seasons.

Gingham and buffalo check are timeless and classic. If you go back 40 years in fashion, you will find them. Perhaps not the most popular in certain decades, but never missing. It reminds me of the 40 years the Israelites wandered in the desert, waiting on God's direction to enter the Promised Land. The time had its ups and downs for sure. One of the things that has fascinated me is the fact their clothes and shoes did not wear out.

For forty years you sustained them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell! -Nehemiah 9:21

As one who hates to give up favorite shoes and clothing pieces, imagine forty years with a favorite item! In truth, they were probably really tired of the same old things. The creative side of our human nature enjoys a little color and variety in our clothing.

It is a good day to celebrate classic plaids and favorite prints.

Today, I am grateful for Gingham & Buffalo Check plaids.
