Gratitude Year 10 - Day 41: Today, I am grateful for spare moments.
I think this is a first. I've never thought to give thanks for spare moments. The unplanned extra few minutes to savor things like art, baking, woodworking, crafting, quilting or a conversation at a neighbors fence. I love spare moments.
"Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Spare moments recharge us, invigorate us and bring delight to an ordinary day. So much of life is lived out by the clock... to the minute. What an extraordinary thing it is when you have more minutes than tasks to complete!
Extra time is more precious than gold. How we spend our time reflects our values and what is truly important.
After Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples who were with him had to figure out how to proceed. Things were not as they had been. What were they to do with what they knew and what they had experienced? They responded with praise.
"And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God." -Luke 24:53
They would figure out what came next in time, but for that moment, they embraced the wonder of what they had seen and heard with Jesus. They paused and fully lived in the moment.
Today, I am grateful for spare moments.
