Meek Not Weak

Year 6 - Day 219: Today, I am grateful meek is not weak.

Ever had one of those weeks? Okay, one of those months? Sometimes it feels as if we burn the candle at both ends and there isn't much reward, just duty, honor and obligations filled. The truth is, doing the right thing is... indeed... the right thing.

We live in a time when self-control is not always promoted. It still matters. It always has. And... it has never been easy. I remember wrestling with this scripture as a child... until I heard it explained:

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. -Matthew 5:5

Think of a wild mustang running free. All of the potential is there but they are often skittish and easily spooked. It is amazing what happens when a loving, patient and gentle hand "breaks" them. It involves relationship and trust. The horse learns to trust and obey. The horse is no less powerful than when it was wild and free. When it submits its will to the master, a unique and powerful bond grows between them. Two are better than one.

The choices we make today impact today... and tomorrow, too. More than that, they echo into eternity. Our souls are eternal. "God breathed into Adam." That is a powerful, eternal, soul breath. What will we do with that breath today? Run wild and free... or get to know the patient, loving hand of the Master who knows our potential and longs to show us true freedom. Forever free.

In meekness, we allow God to work things out. In hindsight, we realize he was doing that from the beginning. Today's vision is not always 20/20, but vision clears in a grateful heart; the strength to trust his hand and his heart grow.

Pray, listen, learn and wait. His timing is always perfect. Not always easy... but always perfect.

Today, I am grateful meek is not weak.
