Brave Again

Daily Gratitude Year Six-Day 339: Today, I am grateful we can be brave again.

This is Dressember. Day 5... in a Dress... to raise awareness for the reality of human trafficking at home and abroad. There are organizations actively involved in the rescue and restoration of the precious souls who are living in the darkest, most evil places. They go where governments are corrupt and powerful people are a part of the problem. As were remember those held captive, we can, also, remember to pray for those who rescue.

"You have listened to the fears child," said Aslan. "Come, let me breathe on you. Forget them. Are you brave again?" - CS Lewis, Prince Caspian

I guess I am not quite done with CS Lewis quotes. This one is new to me. Earworm started singing the Christmas Song "Breath of Heaven". For those new to Daily Gratitude, Earworm is the one singing that song that pops into your head uninvited and gets stuck there. Sometime, he makes me smile. Sometimes, he drives me nuts. Today, I am struck by his perfect choice.

The lyrics include: "Breath of heaven, Hold me together. Be forever near me.Breath of heaven. Breath of heaven, lighten my darkness. Pour over me your holiness. For you are holy, Breath of heaven.

I can't help but think of Mary... who in this season would be weeks away from delivering baby Jesus. So much wonder, but so much was unknown. She must have had moments when she was simply overwhelmed. The child she carried was a miracle and a promise fulfilled. The man she married was understanding and so good... but Joseph was not a midwife. Surely, she clung to the truth that she was not alone.

Did Mary feel God's breath on her, and then discover she was brave again.

She had found favor in the eyes of God and she would bear His son. The child she carried would save her, too. The prophetic scriptures she learned as a child were happening to her.

"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,  and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness," -2 Timothy 3:14-16

When this month of December seems overwhelming... we can pray for His breath to cover us. We can be brave again.  When we remember those caught in slavery, we can pray for their strength to hold on, until they are rescued. We can pray for them to feel His breath, increasing their courage until help arrives. Our God shows up in the most unexpected places. Stables, brothels, lion's dens, bottoms of wells, fiery furnaces, prison cells, courtrooms and fox holes.

Nothing can stop Him from seeking to rescue His beloved. Breathe in His breath.

Today, I am grateful we can be brave again.
