I stumbled on to the blogspot called "Living Our Priorities" with Andre an Timberley Gray. What a lovely place to land. They wrote a post on "How to give the gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. It is a beautiful and brilliant post weaving in the truth of the Magi's gifts.
I've longed for a way to point to the meaning of the wisemen's gifts of gold (a king worthy gift), frankincense (a gift for spiritual purposes) and myrrh (a gift with health benefits health ... used in embalming the dead).
Some families do this with only three gifts under the tree. The Love of my Life's favorite part of Christmas is the gift giving and to limit to three would steal his joy.Still, the Gray's have a great suggestion that I wanted to share this morning. It sets apart three gifts to retell the story of the magi's gifts.
“When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” -Matthew 2:10-11 (NLT)
To give the gift of gold is to give a gift that is of high value to the recipient. Something that they will enjoy, not something we want them to have.
To give the gift of Frankincense is to give a gift for something for spiritual growth and worship. It is a gift that brings them closer to Christ or is Christ centered.
To give the gift of Myrrh is to give the gift of something to physically bring comfort, relief from suffering or to pleasantly scent our human bodies. It is a gift of comfort, healing or fragrance.
How easy it that! Something the want, something for spiritual growth and something for comfort, health or healing.
Today, I am grateful for wise gifts.
