Daily Gratitude Year Six-Day 341: Today, I am grateful for holey, wholly and holy.
The language lover in me can't resist a homophone! What's that? I am so glad you asked!
HOMONYMS are words that sound alike but have different meanings. HOMOPHONES are a type of homonym that also sound alike and have different meanings, but have different spellings. These are so much fun and I am shocked by the many times homophones seem to speak boldly from the scriptures.
"God finds us in the holes we dig for ourselves. We see failures; he sees foundations." -Bob Goff, Love Does
Our Sunday School children sing about the wise man and the foolish man who build on different foundations. My Earworm is singing "Holy, Holy, Holy"... that grand old hymn. Only to day it is "Holey, Wholly, Holy". There are lessons in these old tunes. What we build our foundation on really matters. The good news is that a holey foundation can be whole again.
By the transforming grace and power of Christ, we can be whole and holy if we wholly surrender to the crazy love of a living God who chose our skin and a stable birth over heaven's luxuries.
There is not place so dark His love and light cannot break through. There is no mess so filthy he cannot clean it up with his transforming power. He delights in rescuing, restoring, rebuilding and returning to the relationship He desired from the beginning of time.
We must choose our foundation and building materials wisely.
"It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built." -Luke 6:48
We can live in his wholeness for our whole lives, because he is holy and made things right. We are still works in progress, but we are daily learning to trust the builder with our whole heart.
Today, I am grateful for holey, wholly and holy.
