Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 71: Today, I am grateful for soil preparation.
This time of year, farmers are thinking about soil preparation. It matters. The ground must be worked after the winter's sleep and the frozen conditions. To plant seeds without proper soil preparation is wasteful, as it impacts if the seeds will grow and produce to their full potential. Soil preparation matters.
This is the season that boys of all ages at the grain elevators start to predict "fitness" of the earth for planting. Will it be an early spring or a late one? They watch the weather and the skies. They develop a "spidey sense" as to when they can safely plant. They are all burning with desire to get out and play in the dirt.
The first weeks in the spring are about soil preparation. The soil must be prepared to receive the seed, so the seed establishes a good and healthy root system. The work done in the spring... before the seed is planted... will impact the harvest. Every farmer wants their seeds to take root and flourish. There is a science to ground preparation.
This verse fits:
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. -Ephesians 3:16-17
"Your roots will grow down in God's love and keeps you strong." What is our spiritual preparation?
Love is the key. Love. Not hard, but not always easy. His love empowers us as it changes us. His Spirit is available to help with application. The imperfect becomes fertile, usable soil through His touch.
Today, I am grateful for soil preparation.
